[sw-l] FLASH-THE-LIGHT

The sign that is being written is a quick on-off of the light(s). So it starts closed, then opens and quickly closes. The most accurate spelling is with the three handshaps, but it just feels like there are too many hands. (I didn't know humans had more than two hands!) The other problem is that there is no general arm (or any other movements for that matter) except for the open-close, else the inital writing would have been very good. I tried to see if it would work with the finger movement symbols we have (the hindge ^), but Stuart pointed out a good one. When the hand opens, are the fingers together or spread? The way that it is written, it could mean both. And ASL uses both at times, so we can't just say that it means spread here because if we want to write a puppet talking over our head, we would be stuck. :-) So even though I agree with Kelly Jo that the three handshaps is too much, it seems like it is the best way with the choices we have come up with.

I guess the movement goes twice, so the one with the down twice expresses that most clearly for me. Perhaps ^^ would be better because the movement feels downward to me, not across.
